Frequently Asked Questions

▶ Do I need a student visa to study English in the UK?

Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality and course length. If you're from a non-visa-national country and studying for 6 months or less, you can enter as a Standard Visitor. For courses over 6 months, you'll need a Short-Term Study Visa (6–11 months) or a full Student Visa (11+ months). Our visa team provides free guidance on which route applies to you and helps with every step of the application process.

▶ What's the minimum age to study at Anglotec?

Our adult English courses are open to students aged 16 and over. We have specific young learner programmes for students aged 12–17 during summer months. There's no upper age limit — we welcome students of all ages, from 16-year-olds preparing for university to professionals in their 50s advancing their careers. Our oldest graduate was 72!

▶ Can I work while studying English in the UK?

If you're on a Student Visa (formerly Tier 4), you can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during holidays. Short-Term Study Visa holders cannot work in the UK. Standard Visitor visa holders also cannot work. Many of our students find part-time work to help with living expenses — our student services team can advise on job opportunities in your chosen city.

▶ What accommodation options are available?

We offer several accommodation options: homestay with a British family (from £150/week, includes breakfast and dinner), student residences (from £200/week, self-catering), and shared student apartments (from £180/week). Our accommodation team helps you find the right option based on your budget, preferences, and course location. We recommend booking at least 4 weeks in advance to secure your preferred choice.

▶ How do I know which English level I'm at?

We provide a free online placement test before you arrive and a more detailed assessment on your first day. We use the CEFR framework (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2) to place you in the right class. Most students progress one CEFR level every 10–12 weeks with full-time study. Our teachers continuously monitor your progress and can move you to a higher level when you're ready.

▶ Can I progress to a UK university after my English course?

Yes — many of our students use their English course as a pathway to UK university study. Our Academic English and IELTS preparation courses are specifically designed to meet university entry requirements. We have partnerships with 15 UK universities that accept our English certificates in place of IELTS for admission. Our university counselling service is free and has helped over 2,000 students secure university placements.

▶ What's the weather like in the UK for studying?

The UK has a temperate climate with mild temperatures year-round. Summers (June–August) average 15–25°C, winters (December–February) average 2–8°C. It does rain regularly, so bring a good umbrella! All our centres are fully heated and air-conditioned for comfort. Many international students find autumn (September–November) and spring (March–May) the most pleasant times to arrive and settle in.

▶ How do I apply for an English course?

Applying is simple: visit tools.anglotec-ai.com, choose your course and location, complete the online application form, and pay a £100 registration deposit. Our admissions team will then contact you within 24 hours to confirm your placement, arrange your placement test, and begin the visa support process if needed. Most students complete the entire application in under 30 minutes.
