Do NOT include superficial (1st degree) burns in TBSA calculation. The Rule of Nines is an estimation - use the Lund-Browder chart for more precise assessment in children. Transfer criteria: partial-thickness burns >10% TBSA, full-thickness >5%, burns to face/hands/feet/genitalia, inhalation injury, electrical/chemical burns.
